Description
The Centre Georges Pompidiou opened in1977 to pay witness to the creative activity of the twentieth century. It includes f ine art, photography, a cinema, shows and new technology.

Reopened after two years of renovation work carried out under the architects Renzo piano and Jean François Bodin, the centre offers an eye catching surface area dedicated to cultural activity. Each floor is dedicated to a different activity.

The National Museum of Modern Art offers a wide view of modern and contemporary creations from 1905 to the present day, via a selection of 1400 works of art. Fine art, archetecture and design all coexist under the same roof.

The library, known as BPI, acts as an encyclopedia of the present day containing 350 000 printed documents freely accessible to all, as well as 3500 spoken recordings, 2400 reviews, 10 000 CD’s, 2200 films (documentaries) and 2000 seats and consultation points.

The exhibition area and the creation workshop are reserved for the younger visitor whilst the Children’s Gallery organises two displays a year.

The Centre, aimed at being multidisciplinary, equally organises concerts, shows, films, debates and conferences.
