The Arab World Institute is a cultural place, the consequence of a partnership between France and the Arab world. Opened to the public in December 1987, it occupies a building constructed by a group of architects : Jean Nouvel, Gilbert Lezenes, Pierre Soria and Architecture Studio.
The museum aims to promote the collection of Arabislamic artefacts from the premuslim period to the Ottoman Empire, from Asia to the Atlantic. It also includes contemporary art from various Arabic countries.
The museum has been enriched by a new area dedicated to Arabic museums and contains 200 archeological artefacts coming from Tunisian and Syrian collections. The collections show art previously not on display which reveal key historic and artistic moments showing different parts and aspects of the Arab world.
